Eritrea, from the word ‘erythrea’ which means red in ancient greek, is a new country that took the independance in 1993. Like Djibouti, Somaliland, Ethiopia and Somalia, Ertirea is located in the region of the Horn of Africa. The country has border with Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti. Included the Islands of Dahlak, Eritrea is about 121 320 km2 and the population is about 6 250 000 inhabitants. The main religions of the country are the Christian Orthodox like in Ethiopia and the Muslim sunnit. The Eritreans are half Muslims and half Christians.

The official languages of Eritrea are Tigrinya and Arabic but English is used in governmental offices. The people of Eritrea speak 9 different languages from 9 different tribes: Afar, Saho, Bilen, Nara, Hedareb, Tigray, Tigrinya, Rashaida and Kunama. Former Italian colony, and then annexed to Ethiopia in 1962 after British occupation for couple of years, Eritrea used to be the most industrialized colony in Africa, but the war has destroyed most of infrastructures build by Italians during the colonization.Eritrea_map

Eritrea is a wonderful country with many sites to visit, combined to the Horn of Africa tours, the tours in Eritrea are the City tours in Asmara, in Massawa and Keren. For instance, the town of Asmara was build by Italian Architects from the university.

The weather is cool in the highlands in the northern part of the country and the climate is harsh with hot weather in the southern part at the coast of the red sea.
